On March 31, the High-Quality Development Conference for the Home Furnishings Industry was held in Beijing. The theme of the conference was "Green Leadership · Value Reimagined," hosted by the China Forest Industrial Association.

The participants included industry experts, specialists from national inspection agencies, and leaders from leading enterprises in the fields of engineered wood, engineered wood products, customized home furnishing, and distribution. They expressed their commitment to leveraging the opportunity presented by the upcoming implementation of the "Formaldehyde Release Limits for Indoor Decoration and Renovation Materials: Engineered Wood and Its Products" on June 1, 2026. This initiative aims to foster industry consensus, guide companies toward transitioning from price competition to value competition, educate consumers on the scientific understanding of environmental standards, boost confidence in green consumption, and effectively drive the green transformation and high-quality development of the home furnishing industry.

The participating representatives conducted a comprehensive analysis of the current development landscape, prominent contradictions, and major challenges faced by the home furnishing industry. They also engaged in discussions on current hot topics, with key issues including: breaking the cycle of low-price, inefficient internal competition, shifting the industry from "price competition" to "value competition," and leading the home furnishing sector toward "green growth" through green transformation.

Zhou Hongsheng, President of the China Forest Products Industry Association, presided over a thematic forum titled "From Price War to Value War: Activating New Momentum for Green Consumption with New Productive Forces." He stated that 2026 marks the beginning of the 15th Five-Year Plan period and will be a year of comprehensive efforts to advance green consumption. The national mandatory standard "Limitation of Formaldehyde Release in Indoor Decoration and Renovation Materials - Man-Made Boards and Their Products," which will officially take effect on June 1, represents a significant milestone in the transition of Chinas man-made board industry toward high-quality development.

The conference also held expert forums and entrepreneur forums.

After in-depth discussions, the China Forest Products Industry Association and representatives from over a hundred member enterprises reached a high level of consensus and solemnly issued a declaration on the high-quality development of the industry to the public and consumers.

According to reports, the key points of the declaration include: adhering to the bottom lines of environmental protection and quality, strictly aligning with the new national standards, and accelerating the upgrading of production processes. Starting from June 1, 2026, no artificial boards or their products that do not meet the requirements of the new national standards will be produced, sold, or circulated. The new national standards will serve as the industrys "benchmark line" and the "safety line" for consumer trust.

The declaration pledges to reject conceptual hype and accurately label product grades. It prohibits misleading consumers with vague terms like "zero formaldehyde." In product labeling, promotion, and sales, it ensures truthful disclosure of environmental grades and transparently shares test data, enabling consumers to make informed purchases and use products with confidence.

The delegates expressed their commitment to practicing value competition, moving away from low-end price wars and shifting toward competition based on technology, quality, and service. They pledged to increase R&D investment, promote key technologies such as low/no formaldehyde adhesives, green production, and advanced manufacturing, and foster new productive forces in the engineered wood panel industry. They emphasized driving development through innovation and winning the market with quality, while actively accepting public and social oversight and cooperating with market regulatory authorities in sampling inspections. This approach ensures that those who uphold integrity benefit, while those who violate it face penalties, jointly creating a fair, transparent, and healthy green consumption environment.

"To serve national strategies and support the green consumption upgrade." The representatives stated that enterprises should integrate their development into the broader context of the nations goals of "expanding domestic demand" and "green transformation," responding to the peoples aspirations for a better life with high-quality, environmentally friendly products. They should actively promote green consumption concepts, guide consumers in making informed and rational purchases, and contribute industry efforts to the growth of green consumption. Starting with the declaration, they must fulfill commitments through action, earn respect with quality, and jointly pioneer a new chapter of high-quality development in the engineered wood panel industry.
